3 DEAD GIRLS - Review
From
the dark and twisted mind of Christopher Alan Broadstone comes this
anthology of his first three short films, each dealing with a unique
take on death. Broadstone has a way of capturing your attention from
the very first frame and keeping you enthralled until its
unpredictable end. Every time you think you know where his films are
going... you don't. In fact, this is the main reason they are so
enjoyable. You never know what's going to come next and you can't wait
to see it happen! The equally talented Tony Simmons stars in all three
films, completely changing appearance and character in each one. Never
heard of him? Don't worry, you will. He's that good.
These are films for the "thinking man." Every second is used to
perfection and has something to do with the whole story. They become
even more gratifying with multiple viewings. However, they are shorts,
so I won't go into too much detail because I don't want to
ruin your experience. SCREAM FOR ME, my personal favorite, is
about a killer who may finally find answers from someone more
sadistic than himself. Broadstone gets extra credit for his Bava-esque
lighting that paints the tiny apartment in which the film takes place.
In MY SKIN!, Death gets revenge on someone who cheated him. And
lastly, HUMAN NO MORE shows a private detective giving up on his own
humanity.
As if the films weren't enough, the DVD comes with a bevy of extras
including trailers, bloopers and a plethora of commentaries by the
director, actors, producers, critics etc... (Listening to Eve Blaack
from Hacker's Source talk about these films so passionately was a real
treat.) This disc is recommended for those looking for something a
little smarter and perfectly different. As Madman would put it, "Its
like a pin-cushion on a criss-cross."
